The Company for Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims' Assets is attempting to locate the legal heirs of those who died in the Holocaust, leaving behind unclaimed assets in Israel. Prior to World War II, many European Jews invested in banks, real estate and other assets in Palestine. The vast majority of those individuals were killed in the Holocaust. Today, there are over 60,000 unclaimed assets in Israel that are known to have been purchased by these individuals. The assets are those whose last known beneficiary lived under the Nazi regime and was not known to be alive as of Dec, 31, 1945. These assets include the following:
- Real estate: apartments, buildings, land plots and subdivided plots in Israel.
- Banks accounts, shares, bonds
- Rental fees on apartments or land
- Jewish Colonial Trust (JCT) shares
- Contents of safe deposit boxes
- Various personal belongings
If you believe you are may be the rightful heir to any of these items, check the website of The Company for Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims' Assets. A list of names of the original purchasers and instructions for documenting a claim are available. You may also call 800-475-1049 for more information.
Any funds that remain unclaimed will be used for programs assisting survivors and for institutions and projects commemorating The Holocaust.
