Florida residents are favorite targets for financial fraud. The latest, sinister scam - dubbed the "Grandparent Scam" - starts when a person receives a call about a grandchild. The caller claims the grandchild is in custody and needs bail money. The caller then instructs the shaken grandparent to wire money, and asks that this sensitive matter be kept confidential. If Grandma or Grandpa cooperate and then realize they've been scammed, they are often reluctant to report the crime, embarrassed to have been taken and fearful people will think they are declining mentally. Obviously, if you or your loved one get a call like this, you should notify the police immediately. Read about two Florida families who were targeted by Grandparent Scam.
